About Me

Hi, I’m Jessica! I was born in Riverside County and spent much of my childhood exploring different parts of California, with the Central Coast being home for the majority of those years. Today, I live in Gilbert, Arizona, with my husband and four children. Arizona has always held a special place in my heart—my family often visited my grandmother here when I was young. In 2019, seeking a more affordable and family-friendly place to settle down, we decided to make the East Valley our home, embracing all the opportunities and sense of community it has to offer. I’m a typical country girl living in the suburbs of Phoenix, but I was raised around all kinds of animals. My father always had a menagerie—goats, cows, bulls, sheep, chickens (including a house chicken in the room!), ducks, and of course cats and dogs. As a child, I spent countless hours helping my father care for the animals, learning practical skills, and tending to the vegetable garden alongside him. My love for animals began at a very young age. My first pet, like many kids, was a little fish from a canal, but it was my second pet who truly left a mark on my heart—my dog, Lucky. He earned his name for a reason: Lucky had been abandoned in the Indio Hills desert with a mouth full of cactus needles. I was just six years old when I carefully reached in to pull out as many needles as I could before we rushed him to the vet. Lucky went on to live a long, happy life, passing away when I was 21. I will always remember the moment vividly: my first child, just one year old, sat on top of him for a picture—a memory that perfectly captured the love and joy Lucky brought into our lives.

My love for rabbits didn’t truly begin until my sister went on a summer trip and asked me to care for her 4-H rabbits. Usually kept at the school barn, they had to come home for her absence. That summer taught me two things quickly: rabbits produce a lot of waste, and they can smell if not properly cared for! Since then, I have devoted myself to learning everything I can about rabbit care, husbandry, and proper handling to ensure they live happy, healthy lives. During high school, I also spent time in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and assisting my sister with her 4-H projects—including a pig named Oreo (may he rest in peace).

These experiences shaped my belief in the importance of raising animals around children. Rabbits, in particular, offer companionship and a variety of developmental, emotional, and social benefits for kids. Caring for a rabbit teaches responsibility and empathy, as children learn to feed, groom, and handle their pets gently. It’s even been shown that families with rabbits can see improvements in social skills, as children share experiences and care responsibilities with others. I witness this daily with my own children, and the smiles on their faces say it all.

Animals have been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, and their unconditional love and loyalty continue to inspire me. My passion is sharing the joy and benefits of pets with others, creating spaces where families can connect with animals, and helping children grow through the unique companionship that rabbits provide.

I’m also proud to have an extended family in Coos Bay, Oregon, who share my love of animals. They specialize in breeding Mini Golden retrievers right on the beautiful Coos River. Their dedication to raising healthy, happy dogs is inspiring, and I encourage you to check out their page
